4th South Asian Melioidosis Congress (SAMC)

Esteemed Colleague,

It is a proud privilege for us to host the 4th South Asian Melioidosis Congress (SAMC), 2025, for the first time in Assam, India. We cordially invite you to explore the unparalleled opportunities for learning and networking that await you in the beautiful city of Guwahati.

Join us from 26th to 27th November, 2025 at Hotel Vivanta, Guwahati, for SAMC 2025.

Melioidosis, a neglected and potentially fatal infectious disease predominant in tropical regions, is caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei—often referred to as the “great mimicker” due to its broad range of clinical presentations. Misdiagnosis and delayed treatment are common, as it can resemble many other diseases. The bacterium resides in soil and water and is transmitted through skin breaches, inhalation, or ingestion.

This year's theme, “Melioidosis: The Great Mimicker”, will bring together leading experts from South Asia and beyond to exchange knowledge on all critical aspects of the disease.

Assam, with its rich history and vibrant culture, offers a compelling backdrop for this congress. Discover:

  • The “Pyramids of India” in Charaideo – UNESCO-recognized burial grounds of the Ahom dynasty, rulers of Assam for over 600 years.
  • Assam Tea – A major contributor to global tea production since the discovery of Camellia sinensis in 1834.
  • Kaziranga National Park – A UNESCO World Heritage Site home to two-thirds of the world’s Great One-Horned Rhinos and other endangered wildlife.
  • Majuli Island – One of the world’s largest river islands, home to 21 Satras, and on UNESCO’s tentative list since 2004.

We hope SAMC 2025 will serve as a splendid platform to share insights and breakthroughs in melioidosis research and treatment. Your presence will be an honour and a valuable contribution to the success of this event.

Warm regards,
Organising Committee
